MR2BUG Progress - The Story
The original plan was to build a Street-Legal Toyota based sand rail for reliability and uniqueness. I quickly found out that sand rails have become 'cool' and 'trendy'. What you used to be able to get for $1500 to $2000 became $4000 - $5000 and sold in a day or two. In my search I found this 1962 Volkswagen Baja which ended up being better than my original plan. It is already street legal, old enough to be emission exempt, has a full roll cage, the cage is tied into the frame vs. just to sheet metal, has been converted to IRS, and has front disc brakes! What a find! So...the conversion begins!!
